    Does it pack other types of image not in grayscale?

    It uses 2 calculation methods for converting and input RGB image to grayscale. It does accept colored image, but results may vary.

    Does this add-on run on Linux?

    Yes, because it was developed using only Python built-in modules, and as much as possible SO independent.
