Vse To Nle

by Ad Morris's Add-ons in Addons

I'm on Mac OS or Linux. Which version do I install?

You need to install the version with unix in its filename: vse_to_nle_0.0.5_unix.zip

Which strips types are supported?

Movie, audio, scene, meta, text, color, image (sequences and stills) are all supported. Movie strips, audio and stills are linked seamlessly to their location on disk, without the need to render additional files or proxies. Whilst other strips types are rendered as Open GL previews in a folder alongside your blend file.

Are effect strips and adjustment layers supported?

No. Effect strips and adjustment layers are not a paradigm used in all NLEs, nor are they supported by the Final Cut 7 XML interchange format. However if you need to apply these to your strips, you can nest them inside a meta strip before exporting.

Are multicam strips supported?

No not at this time unfortunately.

Why are my strips pixellated?

You probably have proxies enabled. Turn those off and try re-exporting.

Are strip adjustments, transforms and modifiers currently supported?

Strip adjustments, transforms and modifiers applied in the strip properties panel are not supported per se. However all of these will be applied to pre-rendered strip types (scene, meta, text, color, image sequence) on export. Meaning the effects will be baked into the Open GL renders created by the addon. This might be your desired behaviour but be sure to check before running the exporter, as it may cause confusion about where the effects have come from later!

Are blending modes supported?

No not at this time unfortunately.

Which operating systems are supported?

The addon should work on Windows, Linux and Mac OS.

Which NLEs are supported?

The addon should work with Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro and any other NLE supporting the FCP XML interchange format.

Are transitions and fades supported?

No not at this time unfortunately. However all of these will be applied to pre-rendered strip types (scene, meta, text, color, image sequence) on export, so be sure to disable them before export if you'd like to apply the effects in your NLE instead.

Why aren't my image sequences linked to the source files?

Unfortunately the FCP XML interchange format doesn't support image sequences. So these need to be converted to MOV by the addon in order to appear in your edit timeline. Although not ideal, you can always replace these manually once in your NLE.

The addon looks like it's crashed Blender. What's going on?

Wait a few minutes for the addon to do its work. If you have a number of strips in your scene that need to be pre-rendered by the addon, it might take a few minutes to do that. Check the _Exports folder alongside your blend file to see if the addon is outputting your strips to disk.

Are any other strip export formats supported other than MOV?

No not at this time unfortunately. MOV was selected due to it being widely supported and having an alpha channel. However we do plan to add MP4 as an additional export option in a subsequent versions.

I've used one of the export functions. Where is my XML file?

Your XML file will be saved in the folder alongside your blend file.

I'm on Windows. Which version do I install?

You need to install the version without unix in its filename: vse_to_nle_0.0.5.zip

I can see my clips in Premiere. But why aren't they showing on the timeline?

Recent versions of Premiere have introduced a bug that makes some of the imported clips on the timeline invisible. Right-click on the sequence in the project bin and choose Simplify Sequence. This will create a copy of the sequence with all clips visible.
