Thangs' Add-on for Blender

Thangs-Blender-Addon is a Blender Add-on to search and preview Thangs' wide variety and quantity of models, in addition to uploading your models to Thangs.com

Thangs-Blender-Addon is an open-source community-developed project using the Thangs.com API.

Features

Search and Import

Thangs-Blender-Addon is an integrated search engine for Blender that allows you to search for prebuilt models/meshes so that you can save time in your creative workflow process. You can then navigate to Thangs and import your desired model. The viewport can display previews of all the models found on Thangs in the add-on.

Upload

The Thangs Blender addon lets you upload your model to Thangs.com from within Blender itself.  As you make edits to your blender scene, you can continue uploading new versions of the model as well.  Thangs's 3D version control system will keep track of your edits over time.

Install

Download and install the prerequisites

• Blender 2.93 or later. The add-on is known to run with Blender 3.2.0.

Installation options

From a release Zip file (most users)

1. Download the latest release zip file from BLENDER MARKET or GITHUB
   
2. Do NOT extract the ZIP! (You install it from the ZIP :))
3. Start Blender
4. Choose Edit -> Preferences -> Add-ons -> Install
5. Select the zip file and click Install Add-on
6. Enable the add-on by toggling the checkbox

Thangs-Blender-Addon is now ready to use (see Usage below!)

Usage

To Search

To search using the addon, open the sidebar/"Tools" tab in the View 3D tab by pressing 'N' or clicking the small horizontal arrow in the top right near the RGB XYZ axis spindle, click on the search bar, type something in, and click 'Enter'! This will load all the models available under your search conditions! To reopen the results, just press enter on the search bar again.

To navigate to Thangs.com and continue your search on our site, click the button in the top right corner of the preview pop-up that has our logo on it.

To Upload

Within the same Thangs panel referenced previously is a Thangs Sync section.  Click the Sync Model button here to upload your model to Thangs.com.  By default, the model will be private only to you.  Check the Public Sharing box to make the model available for all Thangs users.
