Photoreal - Make Your Renders Film-Like

This is an addon for anybody who wants to get that extra 15-20% realism you just can't get without compositing. It incorporates many tricks the pros use - such as gate weave/flicker, lens artifacts, film grain, vignetting, and glare... all of it procedural! Blender is optimized to accurately render your scene with as few artifacts as possible. It turns out these are the exact things that make or break realism subliminally.

Photoreal will add the following to your renders (updating on every frame):

  • Gate weave: simulates the slight movement of the film gate in a camera.
  • Gate flicker: simulates the slight flicker of the film gate in a camera.
  • Film grain: simulates the grain of film stock. This one is essential for giving texture to an image.
  • Glare: simulates the glare of a camera lens from bright objects.
  • Lens artifacts: simulates the artifacts of a camera lens, such as chromatic aberration, distortion, and slight softening.
  • Vignetting: simulates the darkening of the corners of an image due to the lens.

    • How to use

    Install the addon by dragging the .zip file into Blender. Make sure you are using Blender 4.2+


    The node will be found in the compositor. Add node > Filter > Photoreal
