Ikea Skurup Desktop Lamp
IKEA - Skurup model desktop lamp
Timeless design - that's how IKEA describes their Skurup series. It's true, this type of lamp fits most styles and scenarios, so it's a perfect fit in most architectural visualizations. Having this as a working and adjustable 3D-model in Blender delivers the same experience!
This model is a detailed Blender version of IKEA's stylish lamp, but I tried to keep it as low-poly as possible. Render times shouldn't have to shoot up with an asset that's only needed to fill in an arch-vis scene, right?
Adjustable
The lamp has been constrained just enough, so that it's easy to move the rotating parts around, without worrying about breaking the model. Just grab one of the turning knobs and press R; the constraints will make sure you can only rotate in the correct directions. You can move the lamp-head as well. Just grab the thing and rotate it using R!
Is your table thicker than most? You can adjust the clamp height, too, by grabbing the bottom knob and pressing G to move it up and down. Moving the lamp as a whole is done by grabbing the bottom part, that sits on the table. Just like in real life.
Cable management
The cables automatically move along with their respective parents, but for realism's sake you can adjust it easily to your liking. Simply go into edit mode when selecting a cable and adjust the curve. A great tip: subdivide the curve once and twist the middle part a tiny bit. It helps a lot, and it's what I did in my scene render!
The bottom cable can be adjusted easily as well to go to your plug in your scene!
Lamp control
The lamp itself is placed in a separate collection, so you can always easily find it again to adjust the brightness and color. I chose not to work with a modelled lamp, for render time management. If needed, it's not much work to find a free model online and simply place it in the lamp head.
