Cjk Pseudo Vertical Writing
Pseudo vertical writing
CJK languages can be written vertically, but Blender doesn't support this.
There are a few ways around this: you can convert text to Mesh or Curve and rotate each character individually. You can wait for Blender to eventually, hopefully, get an overhaul to the text system and support for more complex Unicode glyphs. More realistically, you can create the text in GIMP, Inkscape, or even your browser, then export it as an image and import that into Blender. You can also add newlines after each character to simulate vertical writing.
This addon provides a button to do the last option for you, as well as another button that converts it back.
Caveats
Why is it "pseudo" vertical?
- Mixed writing is completely unsupported.
- Punctuations are supposed to adapt to the writing mode. This is also unsupported.
It works well for Taiwanese Mandarin (Traditional Chinese in Taiwan), but will require some extra tweaking for other languages and punctuation standards.
