Bricksculpt – Sculpt With Lego Bricks!
Installation:
- Be sure you've got the latest version of Bricker installed in Blender (see 'Change Log' on the Bricker product page), along with Blender 2.80+
- You can download BrickSculpt from your account dashboard on the Blender Market, assuming you’ve already purchased it.
- The easiest way to install BrickSculpt is to do so directly from Blender. You can do this by going to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Install. This will open a File Browser in Blender, allowing to you navigate to and select the .zip file you downloaded. Press 'Install Addon'.
- If your browser auto-extracted the downloaded .zip file then you will need to re-compress BrickSculpt folder before installing.
- Once installed, Blender should automatically filter the addons list to show only BrickSculpt. You can then enable the add-on by clicking the checkbox on the upper right of the add-on panel.
Getting Started:
- Begin by following the instructions here to create a brick model with Bricker.
- Be sure to enable 'Split Model' in the 'Model Settings' tab of Bricker.
- For the best experience, use the 'Bricks and Plates' brick type in the 'Brick Types' tab.
- Open up the 'Customize Model' tab in the 'Bricker' UI menu.
- To start sculpting with BrickSculpt, try the 'Draw/Cut' tool by pressing the button in the tab you've opened.
- You should see instructions on the left right hand side of the viewport, along with the hotkeys that are relevant for that tool. Follow these instructions to start sculpting on your model!
- To switch brushes, press the hotkey indicated in the top left corner of the viewport (`D` for Draw/Cut tool, `M` for Merge/Split tool, `P` for Paintbrush tool).
- Once you're finished, press the `RETURN` key to commit your changes and return to the standard 3D view.
- Press `ESC` to cancel the changes you've made during this BrickSculpt session (includes changes made with any tools during the session). Note that changes discarded this way cannot be recovered. Use this option sparingly!
- See the FAQ above if you have any questions or run into any issues.
Using the Draw/Cut Tool:
- Start a new session with the Draw/Cut tool from the 'Bricker > Customize Model > BrickSculpt' tab, or switch to the tool with the `D` hotkey if you're already in an active BrickSculpt session.
- Click and drag over your model to draw 1x1 bricks.
- Bricks are drawn adjacent to the brick targeted with the mouse cursor, on the side indicated by the mouse position.
- Note that new bricks cannot be drawn on top of bricks that were just created; you'll need to release the left-mouse button and click again to draw on top of these bricks.
- Hold the `ALT` key while clicking and dragging to remove bricks created during this session.
- BrickSculpt will automatically split bricks larger than 1x1, so that you're always cutting one 1x1 location at a time.
- Note that with this tool, bricks that existed before this Bricker session was started will be untouched.
- Hold the `SHIFT` key while clicking and dragging to cut into your model.
- This tool is similar to the tool activated with the `ALT` key, with the exception that all bricks will be affected, including bricks that existed before this Bricker session was started.
- Note that in order to cut bricks that were revealed as you were cutting (i.e. cut deeper than 1 layer), you'll need to release the left-mouse button and click again.
- When you release the left-mouse button, BrickSculpt will automatically apply the changes you've made to the Bricker model and merge the bricks together.
- Once you're satisfied with your handiwork, press `RETURN` to commit your changes (or `ESC` to cancel changes).
Using the Merge/Split Tool:
- Start a new session with the Merge/Split tool from the 'Bricker > Customize Model > BrickSculpt' tab, or switch to the tool with the `M` hotkey if you're already in an active BrickSculpt session.
- Click and drag over bricks you wish to merge.
- The brush will select all of the bricks you hover over as you drag.
- When you release the left-mouse button, BrickSculpt will merge the bricks you've selected in the best way possible (using the 'greedy' algorithm).
- If you don't like the way BrickSculpt chooses to merge the bricks, try splitting the bricks into 1x1s and then dragging over only the bricks used to the shape of the brick you want.
- Hold `SHIFT` and/or `ALT` while clicking and dragging to split the bricks under your cursor.
- Hold `SHIFT` to split the bricks vertically.
- Hold `ALT` to split the bricks horizontally.
- Hold both `ALT` and `SHIFT` to split the brick in both directions.
- Once you're satisfied with your handiwork, press `RETURN` to commit your changes (or `ESC` to cancel changes).
Using the Paintbrush Tool:
- Start a new session with the Paintbrush tool from the 'Bricker > Customize Model > BrickSculpt' tab, or switch to the tool with the `P` hotkey if you're already in an active BrickSculpt session.
- Choose a material for your paintbrush with `SPACEBAR`, or hold `ALT` to pick a material from one of the bricks.
- Click and drag over your model to paint the selected material onto the bricks of your model.
- When you release the left-mouse button, BrickSculpt will automatically apply the changes you've made to the Bricker model and merge the bricks together.
- Once you're satisfied with your handiwork, press `RETURN` to commit your changes (or `ESC` to cancel changes).
