Materialx Pack 1: Cycles, Eevee And Octane!
MaterialX Pack 1: Cycles & Eevee is a pack of 50 materials for use in Blender.
All of our material packs, including this one, are set up so that you can export to other programs like Unreal, Unity or wherever. For MaterialX, we had to bake out roughness, metallic and AO maps in order for them to export to other programs properly.
Naming Conventions
The raw MaterialX image textures are all named the exact same thing. baseColor.png, and normal.png for example.
If you pack or unpack these textures, you run into major issues, because Blender thinks they are all the same, so instead of ending up with 50 baseColor.png files, you end up with 1, and your materials end up sharing all the same 5 or so textures.
We have used Unreal naming conventions to rename these so they are all unique and organized.
Octane for Blender Version
We've also created all 50 materials in Octane for Blender as well!
In this version, each material has both Octane for Blender and Cycles/Eevee materials in the same material, which allows you to switch between Cycles/Eevee and Octane! This could also allow you to export your scene from Octane for Blender to Unreal, Unity or elsewhere.
How to install and Use
After you purchase, you'll receive one .blend file. This file can be saved where you keep your other .blend files for your asset library. All materials are marked as assets and will show up in your asset library. We will make a tutorial video soon and put the link here for how to use the asset library features in Blender.
If you are using an older version of Blender, you can simple drag the .blend file into the Blender project you want to add the materials, then append > materials and select one or all to append.
About MaterialX
"MaterialX is an open standard for representing rich material and look-development content in computer graphics, enabling its platform-independent description and exchange across applications and renderers. Launched at Industrial Light & Magic in 2012, MaterialX has been a key technology in their feature films and real-time experiences since Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run."
MaterialX library is free under the Apache license, you are NOT paying for access to these, but rather the time it took to build this library with Blender's Principled Shader, bake the textures, rename and organize.
If you want to get access to the raw materials and images, you can find out more here: https://www.materialx.org/
