Limbic System Anatomy

The limbic system, also referred to as the paleomammalian cortex, consists of brain structures situated on either side of the thalamus and below the medial temporal lobe of the cerebrum, mainly in the forebrain. Its various components facilitate functions such as emotion, behavior, long-term memory, and sense of smell.
