Hdris - Ethereal Skies - Pack 01

by Tinquify in Surfacing

Introduction

Skies set the mood and connotation of many of your 3D scenes.

And many times they will be the main light source and background of your render.

This means that this light source will define most of the aspect of your project.

Choosing a good quality HDRI is an important step to the determine the final render output.

Generally, what happens with HDRIs is that either they are gathered from very different sources (which makes them very unconsistent), they don’t have the enough quality, or the good ones are very expensive.

This is why we decided to carefully create this pack to give you a wide variety of skies that will give you the freedom to play with different lighting conditions, while ensuring quality, consistency, efficiency, and ease of use.

If you are interested in making your renders shine, then this product will really like you!

Features

Pure skies

You will see the sky without any obstacle on the horizon.

No mountains, trees, or buildings will be at sight.

And, by default, the horizon line is slightly under the “3D universe horizon line” to ensure that the dome will always cover the hemisphere.

Variety

We decided to create a sky HDRI pack with a wide variety of different lighting moods to give you lots of creative freedom when choosing the right HDRI for your 3D scene.

Real skies

These HDRIs are not CGI representations. We took photos of real skies to create this pack.

You will find the beautiful randomness of nature in each one!

Versatility

Everyone that makes renders will probably need a good HDRI to light up the scene at some point. So we can say that almost every 3D artist can take an advantage of this. However some of the most notable professions are:

  • Architectural renderer
  • Product renderer
  • Concept art artists
  • Videogame developers
  • Multimedia designers

Accurate Lighting

Unclipped EVs

Our HDRIs have been retouched to display a correct sun intensity. This will ensure that the amount of light and shadows are correct.

This means that there will be sharp shadows when they should, and you will not have to worry about correcting or adding auxiliary light emitters.

Calibrated according to real world photographic values

Each HDRI was adjusted to match the same lighting condition than reality.

In simple words, night HDRIs will look darker than sunny days HDRIs at the same exposure.

This ensures a realistic lighting condition, and you will need to adjust the shutter speed of the camera (or EVs) just as you would need to do in the real world.

White balance

We have tuned them to ensure that the white balance is correctly set.

Consistency

The HDRIs will just work fine out of the box.

We have ensured that every HDRI in this pack has a consistent quality not only in terms of lighting, but also in the following features.

Carefully edited

We edited them to ensure that there are the least amount of artifacts as possible.

  • No sun flares.
  • No dust particles.
  • No birds (or UFOs?) .
  • No chromatic aberration.
  • No bad stitching.

Centered sun

For ease of use, you will find that each of them has the sun centered. This makes finding the right HDRI a much easier task when iterating.

14k and 2k versions

While the high resolution ones (14k px) are great for final renders (as they have lots of detail), the low resolution ones will let you iterate more easily when choosing the right HDRI for your scene because they are much faster to load.

Optimized

You will not only get very high-quality images, but also you will find that all of our panoramas are very optimized compared to many others.

This is mainly achieved by the HDR file format and the need to only show the light information from where it is important: the upper half of the dome.

The average size of our 14K ones is 80MB. To give you a reference most of the HDRIs at that same resolution can take up to 200MB in HDR or 1GB in EXR format.

Well organized and tagged

Each HDRI is semantically named to easily find the one you need.

Our naming convention sorts the HDRI according to their main relevant aspects.

These are: Resolution (High / Low) - Approx. % of clouds - Day time - Type of shadow + Unique code.

Preview image samples

We also provide sample preview images that will help you easily define which HDRI of our pack fits your project best.

That is a lot of time saved in just choosing the right HDRI!

Tested solutions

Tested and improved up to the point where we can ensure that you will be able to make professional looking renders.

Use them in your favorite 3D program

These assets are provided as .HDR files that can be used in any 3D software that supports them (practically all).

Are you a Blender user?

If you are, then good news for you! This pack also contains a Blender Assets version of the HDRIs.

Below are some of the main advantages you will have.

Blender Assets ready

You will just need to drag and drop them, and you will have very handy controllers to tweak the HDRIs most "commonly adjusted" properties.

Categorized

The assets are categorized according to the same criteria that the file name has.

Rotate

Configure the angle of the HDRIs in Z axis to decide how you want the illumination to affect your scene with precision.

This allows you to achieve a wide variety of moods while still using the same sky.

Horizon line

Control where the horizon line falls with this offset slider.

By default, it is set slightly below the real horizon, to fully fill the upper half side of the 3D world with the whole sky.

Punch

An effect we added to our HDRIs system, that enhances their contrast and colours when enabled.

EVs

Although every HDRI has its EVs correctly calibrated, you can change the HDRIs EVs value with this slider.

It is suggested to use this slider just with an artistic purpose or slight retouches, for achieving realism it is adviced to control the exposure of the whole 3D scene.

Color Temperature

Tweak the aspect of the HDRI to be rather warmer or colder with this parameter, offseting it from its neutral white balance.

Gamma

If you are an advanced user, you can retouch the gamma to enhance or decrease the sun intensity influence.

Greyscale

Artistically retouch the sky with the greyscale slider.

Combinable with the punch effect.

Eevee compatible

Since Blender 4.2, Eevee now supports HDRI lighting, so you will take advantage of this when using this pack!

More information

What is the difference between the price tags?

We want to be really sincere with you.

We are a small studio and we know that not everybody has Pixar’s budget.

That is why we decided that the best way to offer this product and be fair to everybody is by splitting it by ranges.

  • Personal / Freelancer / Mini Studio
    • For individuals and small studios with revenue up to USD25k/year.
  • Studio / Pro
    • For professionals and studios with revenue between USD25k/year and USD250k/year, and for 10 seats.
  • Company
    • For businesses with revenue between USD250k/year and USD1M/year, and for 20 seats.

To be clear:

  • There are no differences either in terms of quality (you will receive the same product) or in terms of license type for the different price tiers.
  • The revenue and seats are meant to be considered as orientation when deciding.
    • The software is not locked by seats, it bis just a suggestion from us to be fair with everybody.
  • In short, after your purchase, you will be able to have a commercial license of the product that has the following features:
    • Royalty-free
    • No seats limitation (only suggested)
    • No time usage limitation
    • No media reproduction limitation
    • Access to free updates

This is a simplified version of the detailed terms outlined in the product's license agreement. You can see the license of the royalty-free assets here and the license that corresponds to the GNU GPL assets here. Make sure to read them before buying the product.

Some cases that could guide you in choosing the tier are:

  • If you have a mini studio with some friends and you are all earning less than USD25k in total per year the “Personal / Freelancer / Mini Studio” tier is ok.
  • If you are working for a company and your salary is above USD25k per year then it would be very kind if you consider buying the “Studio / Pro” tier or maybe buying the “Freelancer” tier more than once to be supportive.
  • If you are a studio that earns more than USD25k and less than USD250k per year and has 3-5 employees you should get the “Studio / Pro” tier.
  • If you are a company that earns more than USD250K and less than USD1M per year and has 50 employees you should get the “Company” tier and purchase it at least 3 times to cover the amount of suggested seats.
  • If you are a company that earns more than USD1M per year then we suggest you to contact us in order to agree on a purchasing price.

We hope you understand that, we set the price at the lowest we believe it can be affordable for those different tiers and fair for our work/effort.

It is a matter of common sense that the people who can benefit the most from it can support us in the same way they are getting benefited. If a big company has access to the addon at the same price a small freelancer does it would be a very unfair scenario.

We also have to mention that it would be nice if you consider purchasing the product again just for the sake of support. That would be greatly appreciated to keep the project running.

To sum up, the decision of which "price tag" to choose relies absolutely upon you, and we decided to trust you!

Important Notes
